Coronavirus Update – Thursday 26th March

As of Thursday 26th March, all clubs from Steps 3-6 in the Non-League have been notified by the FA that the current 2019/20 season is to be made ‘null and void’, with all results and fixtures from this season permanently expunged. Walton & Hersham FC will resume playing in the Combined Counties Football League 1 Division in August, for the start of the 2020/21 season.

Firstly, the Club would like to express its sincerest gratitude to all its staff, players, volunteers and not least to the fans for their tireless effort and support this season. A particular token of appreciation goes to Matchday Secretary Merv and First Team Head Coach George Busumbru, who have been instrumental in helping the club to challenge for promotion this season.

Secondly, the Club would also like to make clear its utmost displeasure toward the decision made by the FA on 26th March; looking to seek an appeal or legal challenge in the imminent future against the decision. Walton & Hersham FC believe it is unacceptable for a season to be written off with just six more weeks of football to be played, and believe it to be in complete and utter contempt of all the hard work, time and money invested by thousands of individuals across all leagues, up and down the country this season.

In spite of the recent news, the Club acknowledges that public health and the wellbeing of society will always be paramount, wishing all in our local community and surrounding areas good health in a time of such adversity. Following on from government advice, we urge all supporters to stay home, helping to protect the NHS, saving lives.

We hope that fans and followers alike have had an enjoyable season despite such a distasteful conclusion, we look forward to seeing you soon.
