The club are sad to hear of the passing last night, aged 77, of one of their finest players of the 1950s and 1960s, Eric Holder.
A fast-raiding left winger, Eric made his debut for Swans as a 16 year-old during the mid-1950s, and was then a regular in the side until the end of the 1962-63 season when he made the decision to emigrate to Australia.
Older Swans’ supporters will fondly remember him playing alongside Brian Jenkins, Vic Reynolds and Dave Tarran in the free-scoring sides of the early 1960s that enjoyed memorable cup runs and success, and some of the spectacular goals he scored.
After returning from Australia Eric joined the Metropolitan Police and played for their side.
A few years ago he was a match-day guest of the club on several occasions and it was good to reminisce about the ‘good old days’.
Walton & Hersham FC send their heartfelt condolences to Eric’s family and friends on their sad loss.
